One of each! I love them both but I feel my mare "feels" me while my gelding is more like "yo. Here's my crazy human who kisses me on the nose all the time. Weirdo. At least she feeds me. And pays for this nice hotel she keeps me at."

I listen to many podcasts, always while doing "something," like cleaning stalls, driving somewhere, etc. But this episode took my breath away in the first 10 minutes. Fearing death by drowning due to lack of oxygen because of said breath having been taken away while standing elbows-deep in dishwater, I peeled off my rubber gloves, put the kettle on, sat down, closed my eyes and absorbed all the raw goodness that poured out of this soul nourishing episode. I listened quietly to the last second and sat silently to digest it all when it ended. Oh my. Wow. Thank you for this.

OK I'm going to try this tomorrow! I had forgotten about this exercise. Thanks!

I listened to this with headphones on while doing the dishes, fresh from a hack which ended in what I called "the walk of shame," me walking my young mare all the way back home. She spooked at ducks making out in the pond, and before even giving her a chance to experience that, I jumped off. I was afraid she'd bolt. But as she saw the ducks and started to show signs of nervousness, I petted her!! So, my biggest takeaway from this lesson is "you get what you pet!"

I didn't know about this so I'm glad you posted about it! Often times, I find myself at a loss of what I should be doing when I get to the barn.

This is exactly what I need, a practice to feel more grounded and confident, in bite-size chunks 🩷

It's mesmerizing to watch Tik work so smoothly under all that pressure. He clearly prioritizes his horse's well-being above his competitive ambitions. I'm so proud!
