Nicole MacFarlane so I tried Stubben! But she likes a more open pommel. I got her a Bliss jump saddle, and I'm looking in to English brands for dressage too

That's awesome!!!! It's been brutal here in PA too, colder than I remember it being in years. I had been on the hunt for a new saddle for my girl, so I've been doing loads of groundwork!! Keeping her engaged, thinking, and fit! I'm ready for warmer temperatures soon!!!!!!

Jochen is excellent. I actually did his saddlefit4life course. I don't agree with his "therapeutic fit" ideology at all, or the tree points on Schleese saddles being right for all horses... But beyond that, he's brilliant.

Today she took that trust and gave me the middle finger... it was definitely a "work with the horse in front of you" day today. It was hard and upsetting, but we got through it. Mares. Lol

So I was doing some work with my mare on the lunge line today.. shebwas not happy, was reactive, and just saying "no". I thought "hmmm... she isn't typically like this during groundwork or lunge line stuff, maybe I should take it off ". ..
Now, part of me was struggling with this because she was being "naughty" (I rarely use that term... but there was a whole lot of "no ma'am " happening today), and if I took it off, was I allowing her to get away with this not-so-great behavior?? Well, I trusted my gut, and took her rope halter and line off. Initially she was just walking around sniffing, only paying attention to me about 10% of the time. I let her sniff then asked her to move forward.
To my very pleasant surprise, my mare did a lovely trot and canter circle around me, even kept it about a perfect 20m circle. She listened to my voice cues, my body language. It was awesome!!!! Maybe she was annoyed i wasnt "trusting" her and today needed to be the day I let her work at liberty!!! It was so lovely!!
I finished our time off by putting her back on the lead line and asking her to trot over some ground poles. This time, she was soft, nice and forward, stretching forward and down. I wanted her to finish on the lunge line in a positive light, and she totally did.
Today was a huge win for us. My mare is definitely showing me that I can trust her and ask her for more than I have realized!

Loved this.. the thing that stuck out the most for me was teaching the bend by them engaging with us, not by using force and creating bend that way. Really cool

Ansley - I have a probable PSSM2 mare (chronically sore, gets intermittent relief, but nothing long lasting). My vet and I decided to "treat her like a PSSM2 mare" and see how she progresses over the next 6weeks or so. The plan is to do the muscle biopsy once I have the funds. In the meantime, other than proper diet, tack, consistent exercise and bodywork, what are things you suggest for your horse's that live with this condition? It seems to be a tricky one, and I just want my mare to feel good and be a happy, willing partner.

This is awesome!!!! I've vacationed a bunch in Bozeman and actually used to own property there! This is a sweet restaurant too. Sad I can't be there (I'm in PA) but this is awesome and enjoy!!!
